Em's storywriting team writing guide

Writer: Lunar WangLunar Wang

Even if you are young, you can still write like adults do. Your age does not matter on writing!

Hello, do you always daydream? Or, always full of ideas? If you are one of these people, the world needs to hear from you!

Many teens and children don't write. But they are losing out! Personally, I think you should be able to write and publish a book, no matter how young you are. Many of you may have good ideas but just can't express them. So writing is the best way to show yourself because it does not have a lot of rules compared to social media (vlogging).

So in this blog, I am going to show you some tips and writing guides to share your words with the world!

Problems

Now, if you have problems you aren't likely to achieve a book. So these are the common situations that you can't publish a book for children and teens:

1: school work

2: Your parents don't allow you

3: Not rich enough

4: Discrimination

5: poor writing skills

6: health drawbacks (eg. dyslexia*)

7: fears

8: no self confidence

Whoah, whoah, whoah. There are so many problems, so I can't make it.

No, it's not like that. I will give you a few ways to solve these.

*Dyslexia is a learning disorder that involves difficulty reading due to problems identifying speech sounds and learning how they relate to letters and words (decoding).

Solutions

Every problem has a solution. Here are some ways to solve them.

For problem no.1 you can write on weekends or free time. If you are revising for exams do it after examinations.

For no.2 you can persuade them and hopefully you can win the argument.

For no.3 it you are a talented writer your family might get rich. Your publisher might buy your book to publish.

For no.4 don't care whether you are discriminated. Just be yourself and those people will regret it.

For no.5 you can check out our posts to find ways to improve your skills. You can also read great authors books or you can read short ones in our posts at emstorywritingteam.com

For no.6 ask for medical support or you can ask someone to help you.

For no.7 you must overcome your fears.

For no. 8 be confident and don't be scared if it did not turn out well.

You can ask for help in any of these problems.

Guides

So in writing, you need to make a suitable title to catch your reader's attention.

For example if you wrote about a fairy named Tina a suitable title would be "Tina: a mystical fairy" or "A fairy called Tina". You can add a twist of humour to your story like "Hipoop Jimmy" for a story about a funny Hippopotamus. It is a great way to capture young readers sight.

Now for your content, it is best to not be so practical (general) when writing novels or any fiction book. You want to slowly introduce the problem or the exciting part of the story by giving it a rising action. For example don't write:

"One sunny morning I woke up and saw my cat missing. I rushed downstairs and went into the winter forest. My cat was just jumped out of a bush and landed in my arms. I was relieved and went home."

This type of story is very boring and it won't be popular because of it's boringness.

So once you finished your story you can hire an illustrator (if you have any drawings you want to put). Some illustrators can get so expensive that one illustration can cost $400 or more. So look around and find a cheap one.

Tips

  1. Do not write discriminating / violent content. This will ruin your reputation.

  2. Check your spelling and grammar. If you're spelling or grammar is wrong, it would be hard for your reader to tell what you are writing.

  3. Use show not tell. Show not tell is basically showing what the character feels. For a detailed guide visit https://www.emstorywritingteam.com/post/em-s-story-writing-team-helpline

  4. Do not give up! It is the determination that makes a successful author.
